Prof. Nazarius Mbona Tumwesigye

  • He is a Professor in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics at Makerere University school of Public Health and past chair of the department.
  • He has authored/co-authored over 20 papers related to alcohol/substance use epidemiology and policy in peer review journals.
  • In a 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s report he was named among top 10 researchers in Makerere University recognized by amount of papers published in previous 5 years and the July 2022 AD scientific index 2022 version 2 rated him among 6 best in the country using nearly the same indicator.
  • For over 10 years he has served as a member of the governing committee of the Kettil Bruun Society (KBS), a group of researchers interested in social and epidemiological aspects of alcohol use.
  • He is a founding director of alcohol, drugs and addictions research unit (ADARC) at the school of public health. The unit aims at providing a one stop centre for research evidence on alcohol, drugs and addictions in the world but mostly on Uganda and the region.
